Abstract: In this paper, two relevant bodies of literature are examined and compared, namely the ‘interaction and networks’ literature (associated primarily with the IMP Group) and ‘Chinese management’ literature. Elements examined include relationships, networks, trust, culture and forms of exchange. The contention of the paper is that both bodies of literature have something to contribute in terms of a theoretical basis for an empirical study of Chinese/western joint ventures.
